Do you ever have those days where nothing goes right? How about this circumstance. Your alarm doesn't go off, and you wake up five minutes until you have to be a work. You get a text from a good friend that they are mad at you for something you didn't do, all while you are running late. While you are in the car, it breaks down and you have to pull over. While you are pulled over, you get a phone call from a relative saying that someone close to you got arrested. You are already twenty minutes late and the mechanic can't get there for another hour.
So, you call your boss to let them know you might be late, but their assistant tell you they are in a meeting. You were supposed to head up that meeting. Fine, you've had enough. Maybe that cup of coffee from the place a couple blocks away will boost your spirits. You order a nice, steamy cup of coffee that smells incredible, especially since you normally have breakfast at the office. You sit down to enjoy the amazing boost of caffeine, but then some jerk bumps into you and your coffee spills.
All of this happened, and the day hasn't even started yet. Eventually, you make it to the office. Your boss yells at you for not warning them, and your co-worker ate that last piece of cake. Everything sucks.
How about this point of view? Your alarm broke, but at least you could delay that presentation because you may not have been ready. Yeah, your good friend was upset, but what you didn't know was their cat of ten years had just died. The person who was arrested was just desperate for attention. The mechanic had been going through a divorce, and had been having a hard time coping. The person the taxi driver was driving's son had just been hit by a car, and they were far away from the hospital. The man who bumped into you had an unfaithful spouse. Your coworker's boyfriend slipped and told her she was too skinny, so she was trying to gain weight without him knowing. Lastly, your boss' daughter had miscarried.
So yeah, that was an awful day. It's so easy to just up and say, "I'm done. I'm going home." What if you were to be nice to everyone who had an effect on your day. Maybe that is the only drop of positivity they will have for a long time. But hey, that's life.
