Music To My Ears

Music. Everyone has their own specific taste in music, and everyone can probably name at least five songs from their favorite artist. I know I can. Why do we like music so much? What is it about a melody that sends chills down our spines? I can answer some questions, through research I've been working on.

One thing that I've found to be true is that we like music that reflects our mood. If we are sad, depressing music is the way to go. If we are happy, upbeat music is our go to. Music is one of the greatest ways people have communicated.

Take the song, Say Something by A Great Big World, for example. People tend to listen to that and really get emotional when they know what it's like to lose someone or something important to them. Think about it, no one who has never lost anything in their lives would cry hearing that song. However, to someone who had, it would mean the world to them.

We all have that one song that reminds us of someone. For me, the song Lead Me by Sanctus Real reminds me of my grandmother who passed away a few years ago. It was the song I listened to right before my mom told me what happened.

Nevertheless, humans in general love rhythm. There is nothing like a song that can get us up and on our feet. Music is one of the only things that can change the way we see the day. So go ahead, listen to your favorite song over and over. No one will blame you.
